Organic soap or ‘cleansing bars’ as they call them at Miessence come in two varieties, geranium and tea tree. This review is for the Miessence geranium cleansing bar.
Packaging
The geranium cleansing bar is shipped in a recycled cardboard box, with the usual pieces of foam-ish filling. The filling is not made from regular foam, but from a plant-derived fiber, which means that that the pieces are bio-degradable. Bonus points! The organic soap bar itself is tightly wrapped in transparent foil for protection and comes inside a scrub-bag. I would actually call it s soap-cosy. Except for not being made out of soft wool, it fits the description perfectly’, making a snug fit for the cleansing bar. The knitted texture of the rugged fiber can be used to exfoliate before or under the shower.
Texture
The Miessence geranium cleansing bar looks very… ahem… natural, in a yummy light-beige kind of way. It foams as creamy and velvety as it looks and washes the body clean with some of the most natural organic soap bubbles. Great lather and very soft.
Scent
This organic soap smells only faintly of geranium. The scent was so light to me, that even if I didn’t like geranium as a smell, I wouldn’t have been bothered by it in this this soap. It just has a distant hint of something other than nothing, something slightly fresh and flowery, if you wish, but very hard to pinpoint. I would almost classify this as a scent-free soap. That’s not a bad thing, just don’t expect to drift away on waves of geranium in the tub.
Ingredients
Ingredients (INCI): Saponified coconut oil, geranium essential oil.
This soap really has just two ingredients. Who said you need more? I have to give Miessence credit for not being shy about minimalizing the ingredient list of their organic soap bars. Thinking of all the extravagant blends most amateur and professional soap-makers put together, it’s kind of funny. Good to know – one vegetable oil and one essential oil is enough to make some delicious, natural and organic soap. What works for Miessence, would also work at home and that’s something I’ll be keeping in mind, in case I ever want to give making my own organic soap a try!
What I like about the Miessence Geranium Cleansing Bar
- It’s gentleness.
- The very discrete, natural scent.
- The scrub pocket it comes in. Genius!
- Gorgeous soft lather.
What I like less about the Miessence Geranium Cleansing Bar
The construction with the scrub-pouch works best after a few days, since the bar is on the large side. At first, in a wet environment, squeezing it in didn’t go quite so smooth.
Final thoughts & other organic soap reviews
At times I might long for something more fragrant, but this gentle organic cleansing bar is great to get clean, no matter what. Probably a good choice to use for kids too!
Pricetag: US $8.75 per bar of 100 g/3.5 oz.
