What to do before starting on your soy massage candle recipes?

  • Prepare your working space
  • Weigh or measure the ingredients (possible while waiting for the double boiler to heat up)

Especially when making soy massage candles is new to you, proper preparation helps a lot with successfully completing the project. Being focussed and well organized will let you stay in the joy of making candles.

Having all the ingredients and equipment ready for grabs is important. Timing is somewhat crucial in the process of making soy massage candles. There is a ‘perfect’ moment to pour the wax into the jars and if you miss that window, the mixture will need to be reheated.  No big deal, except that the essential oils may evaporate and loose some of their power. After some trial and error, you will know exactly when to add the essential oils and when to start pouring the soy massage candle recipes. Until then, just watch and learn, and most importantly, have fun!

Note: Shea butter doesn’t like heat – it tends to get grainy when heated. If your soy massage candle recipes contain Shea butter, try adding it to the warm wax and oil mixture right after taking the mixture out of the double boiler.

Which essential oils to use in aromatherapy massage candle recipes?

Since the mere purpose of using a massage candle will be to relax, the most important thing here is that the smell of the candle does not displease you!

Let your nose guide you to the essential oil of your taste or combine a few different ones to create a unique scent. Once you have decided which ones to go for, have a look at their individual profile pages to learn about their specific properties. You might discover that you have a natural preference for uplifting oils, or for calming ones – at least at the moment.

Just a few pointers:

Ylang-ylang essential oil is sweet and known as an aphrodiasac scent. In Indonesia, petals of ylang-ylang flowers (as seen in the picture) are sprinkled on the bed of newly-weds. But this beautiful tropical flower is not reserved for couples only. It is calming, soothing, stress-relieving and balancing in general – to the skin as well as to the psyche.

Tangerine is another great oil with a particular gift to set the mood. Tangerine essential oil has a very pleasant light and ‘happy’ scent. It’s freshness takes away stress and tension in body and mind.

Lavender and Mint (spearmint or peppermint) – two classics – are always a great choice. The first is known to be relaxing and the second to give a friendly boost, clear the mind and help with nausea or headache.

Lavender, mint and citrus oils such as tangerine (but also lemon, lime, grapefruit) are relatively inexpensive and lovely simple way to perfume your massage candles. Ylang-ylang is a bit more pricy, but so suavely romantic and a delight for the senses.

You can find these and many other organic essential oils at this lovely supplier, or your can browse essential oils on Amazon (from different suppliers).
