Review of Weleda’s Almond Facial Cream.
Packaging
The cream comes in a one-ounce tube, with a cardboard box around it, like most Weleda skin care. My comments on packaging usually don’t go beyond looking at whether it’s glass, plastic or cardboard, and which efforts the brand makes to keep waste to a minimum. For once though, I have something very specific to say. This tube and I have not been getting along that well, in fact it has been a source of frustration pretty much every single time. Putting the cap back on somehow never quite works . I like to squeeze some cream on my hand or finger, and then quickly close a tube, holding the cap against the palm of my left hand and turning the tube back into it with my right. The dab of cream sits on my pointer or middle finger, waiting to get spread out. Oddly, this motion, which I’ve used without much thought for a very long time has been a constant struggle with the Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Cream. The cap never quite wanted to do its quick swirl and most times it ended either on the floor or with me putting the cream on my face first, so that I could use both hands. This is going to get even more boring now – but hey, didn’t you search for a review of this product? 😉
Because I couldn’t remember having issues with the lid of Weleda’s creams in the past, I believe it has something to do with the new(er) design. This cap has thin, rather tall walls compared to the older ones. It’s a bit hard to describe, but if you look at one, you’ll see what I mean. It makes hitting the center of the cap less easy, hence… my quick-closing-motion fails eight times out of ten. No biggie, just slightly irritating.
If the Almond Soothing Facial Cream was an absolutely epic organic skin care product, I wouldn’t mind so much. Since it is rather simple and basic, I have to admit I may look for something that is more convenient in use, after this one runs out.
Texture
Beautiful, white and creamy. Perfect consistency – fluid enough to spread out easily, and thick enough to not drip.
Scent
Very faint scent of something almond. I think this cream is basically unscented, but the natural ingredients give it a certain creamy fragrance, though it is extremely light.
Ingredients
Ingredients, INCI: Water (Aqua), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Hydrolyzed Beeswax, Prunus Domestica Seed Oil, Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid.
Only very few ingredients to review for the Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Cream – it is meant to soothe sensitive skin, so Weleda has kept it very basic. Sweet almond oil is great for sensitive skin. The only other oil used is plum seed oil which nourishes well and improves the elasticity of the skin. The only controversial one in this list would be alcohol.

What I like about the Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Cream
- The texture is lovely.
- I don’t need unscented stuff in particular for my skin, but this faint creamy scent of nothing-in-particular has kind of grown on me.
- It’s fairly rich while still spreading on nicely, and gives my skin enough nourishment for a day.
- I love the company Weleda and what they stand for. They grow their own botanical ingredients in organic gardens!
What I like less about the Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Cream
I have my doubts about alcohol in skin care, even though I can not say my skin looks worse when I use it. Some say the downsides of alcohol have more to do with ageing. That makes me wonder if it is something one should consider in the long run? On the other side, it would be a shame to discard a perfectly fine organic skin care product, just because (even natural, organic) alcohol has been blacklisted by some experts, whereas others are convinced it’s fine.
Final thoughts & other Organic Face Care Reviews
For this review of Weleda’s Almond Soothing Facial Cream I’d say it is a fine basic product, that doesn’t address any particular skin issues. That makes it a good staple, if your skin doesn’t have any particular problems besides being sensitive. However, for specific problems such as acne and blemishes, or to fight wrinkles and ageing, this cream may not be enough and you’ll probably want something with a bit more power.
Pricetag: around US $ 20.
