Weleda Reviews: One Step Cleanser & Toner

Weleda is a German brand with an athroposofical philosophy. As a regular and happy user of Weleda products, I’m looking forward to writing more natural skin care reviews about this brand. Over the past weeks I’ve been giving the Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner a try. I’m not very good at following the entire skin care ritual steps, with a cleanser ànd a toner every time. The Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner is supposed to be both a facial cleanser and a toner, which comes in handy for people like me, who tend to skip the toning phase!

The bottle comes in a cardboard box and the bottle itself is made of blue glass. The box goes on the recycleable paper stack and glass is an eco-friendly choice, since it doesn’t add any plastic to the world. Blue glass isn’t mentioned at the glass bin around the corner (only white, brown an green), but I’ve found out it can be disposed of with the green glass. Or rinsed out and kept for your own preparations.

Texture

Very liquid. This is not a creamy lotion, like Weleda’s Dermalotion for example. It is a bit too runny to apply to the face using your hands. Just drizzle some lotion on a cotton pad. Rinse with water or use another cotton pad (moistened with water) to remove.

Scent

Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner smells delightfully fresh. A natural scent, that tingles in your nose and has an uplifting effect!

Ingredients

Ingredients (INCI): Water (Aqua), Fragrance (Parfum)*, Potassium Olivate, Iris Germanica Root Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Distillate, Lanolin, Alcohol, Limonene*, Linalool*, Citral*. *from natural essential oils

For personal use and for my natural skin care reviews, I read labels carefully and look up terms that don’t sound familiar (yet).

Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner contains only natural ingredients. With their track record, I fully trust the fragrance is made from natural or organic essential oils only. Apart from oils and plant extracts, the product contains lanolin, a substance extracted from the wool of sheep. Lanolin has protective properties for the skin. Lanolin is of animal origin, but sheep do not get harmed in shaving their wool. Not sure if it is acceptable for vegans to use something that contains a wool derived substance…?

Witch Hazel has astringent properties, tightening the pores. The fatty acids in olive oil are called Potassium Olivate. I suppose the essential oils are giving the Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner its lovely fresh scent.

What I like

Absolutely love the scent and it seems to be cleaning the skin nicely. Also love its freshness and pick-me-up effect on the skin. Skin structure looks refined after use and Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner seems to have a healing effect on blemishes as a bonus. Aren’t plants great…

The blue glass bottle is elegant looking on a bathroom shelf and pleasant to handle.

What I like less

Well, if I really have to come up with something – glass bottles are heavy in a toiletry bag when travelling.

Final thoughts on the Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner

A great all-natural organic skin care product.

Weleda’s healing plants are grown in organic gardens. Germany has the biggest organic garden of 50 Acres/20 Hectare. Weleda dependances in Holland, France, Switzerland, England, New-Zealand and South-Africa also grow some herbs locally, with respect for the planet. I’m a huge fan of this company.

The fact that a skin care product contains only natural ingredients doesn’t completely exclude allergic reactions. Lanolin can cause contact allergies to certain people. Well, so can peanuts, strawberries or peaches. Doesn’t mean they are dangerous for everybody’s health. Just know that the Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner is truly natural and will not bring any toxic, synthetic chemicals to your skin. It is made by a company that respects nature and grows medicinal plants organically.

Even though I do like this cleanser and toner all in one, it may not be for everybody. The scent is quite sharp, almost stingy. For people with very sensitive skin, something more gentle is probably a better choice. Be sure to check out my absolute favorite all natural face cleansing product here. It’s pretty amazing, and Weleda’s One Step Cleanser & Toner can’t beat it.

Where to find the Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner?

Apart from the local stores, you can find this organic face cleanser online (often for less money, too.)

  • Amazon has some good deals listed for Weleda’s One-Step Cleanser & Toner.
  • I like LoveLula, because they have the best European organic skin care lines, and offer free worldwide shipping.

I’m a first time Weleda user, with that said I was frustrated with acne products and prescriptions that just irritated my face. I have oily acne skin and chose the weleda one step cleanser/ toner as I saw it contained minimal ingredients. It has been about three weeks now, and my skin is glowing like it used to when I was a child before I hit puberty. I hardly wear make up anymore, maybe mineral powder or concealer and I’m done. After I use the one step I follow up with the iris hydrating facial lotion for combo oily skin types. If I get a blemish ill use the calendula diaper care as a spot treatment. I thank God everyday for the inspiration he gave to the founders of weleda. I even got my mother using it on her extremely dry skin and she loves it too. Thank you Weleda!

Hi Cathy, happy to hear it worked for you, and so quickly! That’s amazing. Going without makeup is the way – sometimes we all need a little dab here and there, but with the right products for your skin, it really isn’t out of reach. I’ve actually used the Iris hydrating facial lotion as well, and the Almond one too – loved them both. Which powder and concealer are you using – any natural / organic makeup tips …?
