Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil Reviewed.
Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil is an all natural body care product by an originally German brand, known for its antroposophical philosophy and holistic approach to skin care. This company has been making natural organic skin care since the 19-twenties!
Even though the label does not specify whether the ingredients are from organic agriculture, I’m inclined to think they are. Weleda says they cultivate most – if not all – of their botanicals in their own gardens. These gardens are located in different places all over the world, and worked in a way that is respectful of the environment and of the s-called ‘natural rythms’. Perhaps that means Weleda doesn’t specify that the individual ingredients are organic, because to them, that goes without saying? I still feel like asking them, just to be sure that’s accurate…
Packaging
The oil comes in a heavy glass bottle in a cardboard box. The glass is colored dark green, or sometimes blue, and has a screw cap.
Texture
Weleda Wild Rose body oil is fluid, but not so runny as to drip straight through your fingers. Rubbing between my hands and then spreading out works well. Perhaps a matter of opinion, but I would like to add to this Weleda Wild Rose body oil review that I find it a bit challenging to get an even spread. I feel like I have to rub rather hard, to get rid of the ‘too much’ in one area and move that to a neighboring spot. Sometimes I’ll just get some more oil out of the bottle instead. On the positive side, the Weleda Wild Rose body oil penetrates nicely after a short while and my skin feels well nourished.
Scent
Obviously, Weleda Wild Rose body oil smells like roses. If the scent of roses in general doesn’t appeal to you, don’t even bother. If it does, let me tell you one thing. In the realm of rose scented skin care products, this is gold. There’s a huge, massive, monumental (alright, I think you get the point!) difference between synthetic rose fragrance and the gentle, uplifting odor coming out of this bottle. If you think you know roses, from a synthetic perfume or from artificially fragranced skin care products, you have no idea. Those smells are shrieking dissonances compared to this one. They are so crass. Weleda Wild Rose body oil smells crisp and tender, like a whiff you would catch from a real rose. It’s mesmerizing. Under the roses, there’s a bit of a nutty odor, probably from the sweet almond oil. Interesting mix.
The scent of this body oil has a soothing effect on my nerves and general well-being. Sometimes, when I feel stressed, I smell the bottle for an instantly calming effect. For that reason alone, I like to have one around. 🙂
Synthetic rose fragrance has never been able to do that to me. At the risk of sounding completely wacky and loosing all credibility here – The human body is intertwined with the natural world, even though our kind tends to forget that, these days. The use of natural essences illicits a very differently response than a synthetic substance does. Even if that whole thing happens on a level which modern science can’t ‘reach’ (or measure) yet.
Alright, back down to earth, now.

The ingredients for Weleda skin care, as mentioned in the beginning, are coming from their own bio-dynamic gardens. Weleda has been doing the organic thing since way before it was ‘hip and happening’. Starting in the 19-twenties, these farms have been managed to grow botanicals without the use of chemicals, pesticides and growth hormones. Crops are harvested following the natural rhythms of the moon, sun and planets. Some pretty happy roses went into the creation of this body oil. No wonder it smells so perfectly lovely.
What I like about Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil
- Love the smell. I’m a roses kind-of-girl.
- Nourishes well, makes soft skin.
- Weleda’s organic farming and great work ethics.
- The thick texture needs some rubbing to spread evenly – on the other hand, it lends itself well to some heavy kneading and therefor makes a good oil for massages.
What I like less about Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil
- I like the glass bottle to use at home. Glass is best for natural oils, because it preserves the freshness and properties better than plastic. For travelling, this is a bit too heavy though – not very practical. Minor point… which only applies if you have to actually carry your luggage. 😀
Final thoughts & other Organic Body Care Reviews
Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil is a great product to have and to use for both body care and massage. Weleda being one of the best European natural, organic skin care brands, this body oil can be relatively more expensive in other parts of the world. Have a look online, if your local store doesn’t carry it, and compare some prices.
For example:
- LoveLula is a great place to find natural/organic skin care, a bottle of Wild Rose Body Oil there is US $30 – with free worldwide shipping.
- You can also find Weleda Wild Rose Body Oil on Amazon – for a fair bit less than US $30, but it could be worth checking the additional shipping costs and then comparing that total to LoveLula’s price.
