The Coconut Body Oil by Annmarie Gianni is an all-natural body moisturizer, made almost entirely with organic and wild harvested ingredients.
Packaging
Coconut Body Oil comes in a dark glass bottle with a pump dispenser. Different sizes are available: 100 ml (approx. 3.4 oz), 200 ml (approx. 6.8 oz) and a trial size in the sample body kit.
Texture
Solid below 76 degrees Fahrenheit, liquid otherwise. It is an oil, but if you have any worries about it leaving your skin greasy, don’t. Annmarie Gianni’s Coconut Body Oil is absorbed by my skin faster than I can grab a shirt. Whereas I find Weleda’s Wild Rose Body Oil needs some rubbing to achieve an even spread, this oil also has no trouble with speedy covering of large area’s. Despite it being translucent, rather delicate and thin, my skin feels soft and very well nourished.
Scent
Very suprising to me was that the Coconut Body Oil really doesn’t have a coconut scent right off the bat. The first thing going through my mind was “What?! Lavender…?” I was so surprised, expecting this oil to have the characteristic coconut odor, that I headed straight for the product page on Annmarie Gianni’s website to check the ingredients. Indeed, lavender essential oil was on the ingredient list, but also many other plant names. Just to be clear – I am not complaining about it, I love lavender, just wasn’t expecting it here.
Then I noticed someone else’s comment in the product reviews. The lady was complaining about the lavender fragrance, saying that she was wishing for (and apparently also expecting) a coconut scent. There was a response from one of Annmarie Gianni’s team members. With coconut oil being the main ingredient, this body oil solidifies below 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the bottle in a warm spot, a bowl of warm water for example, and it will become liquid again. Nothing strange so far. However, and more importantly – the delicate mixture of botanicals and their natural fragrances do not blend evenly, when the oil is cold and hardened. That’s actually okay, because it shows how natural the product is. It hasn’t been stabilized with synthetic chemicals. Mine was hard as butter when it arrived, mid winter! So there I learned… I had to warm the Coconut Body Oil up before judging the smell, and give it a good stir/shake to allow for the bouquet of botanical odors to fully express itself.
Take two of assessing the fragrance. My Coconut Body Oil still has a distinct lavender presence, but now there’s a lot more coconut shining through. What an interesting combination. I would never have thought of assorting coconut and lavender fragrances. As it turns out, it is a layered, complex scent and the more I smell it, the more I enjoy this surprising blend. It’s actually an absolutely fascinating fragrance now that it has opened up. The name sets an expectation here, so perhaps it’s good to know coconut refers to the main ingredient, but to the scent not so much.
In conclusion: After getting to know it a little better, the Coconut Body Oil has bewitched me witht its spicy lavender-ish opening and smokey, tenebrous undertones. Who would have thought coconut and lavender (together with elemi, Peru balsam and frankincense) could be so sensual? I’m hooked!
Ingredients
Ingredients, INCI: Love, organic extra virgin coconut oil; organic sunflower and grapeseed oils infused with wild-crafted & organic herbs: milk thistle seed, rosemary leaves, green tea leaves, roobibos, life everlasting flowers, licorice root, gingko leaves, ginseng leaves; gotu kola leaves, calendula flowers, lavender flowers, hibiscus flowers, echinacea purpurea, plantain leaves, shavegrass, chamomile flowers, malva flowers; organic aloe vera oil; organic olive oil; organic Rice Bran Oil; vitamin E tocopherols (non-GMO); essential oils of lavender, elemi, peru balsam, frankincense.
This in not ‘just coconut oil’ or your average body oil. Nothing wrong with using plain organic coconut oil as a body moisturizer, but the long list of herbs this concoction is infused with, takes your coconut-experience to a whole new level. The ingredients are mostly organic and wild harvested. The lauric acid in coconut oil is antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory. Good for normal, healthy skin and also very good for skin in need of some special TLC.
What I like about the Annmarie Gianni’s Coconut Body Oil
- The fascinating fragrance blend of coconut, lavender and other scents.
- How quickly it penetrates.
- Leaves skin nourised and moisturized, but not greasy.
- The impressive cocktail of botanical extracts in this mixture.
- The fact that it’s all-natural – no synthetics, petrochemicals, nasty chemicals.
What I like less about Annmarie Gianni’s Coconut Body Oil
Can’t really blame the name for setting this full-on coconut scent expectation. After all, this oil is chock-full of coconut. Its fragrance is just not as cliche as one would generally expect from a product called “coconut”-something.
Final thoughts & other Organic Body Care Reviews
This is an organic body oil I would like to always have around. The scent is quite particular. I might not be in the mood for it every single time, and perhaps try some other products along the way, but at the same time I can see myself growing so accustomed that I’ll keep coming back to it. The Coconut Body Oil is definitely an organic body care product with personnality. 🙂
A versatile one, too. I use a little bit on my hands throughout the day and I bet it makes the most amazing massage oil. If it doesn’t sink into the skin too fast, that is.
As far as the texture goes, I think an oil is such a great way to moisturize, because it contains so many nutrients, no water, doesn’t need preservatives and gives the skin a beautiful, healthy glow.
