Today, I’m reviewing Boucleme’s Exfoliating Shampoo, based on using it exactly once. While it is an interesting product and I do sort of see what they’re going for, once was enough to form an opinion. This is not going to be a re-purchase.
The little tube I had came in one of the awesome discovery boxes by Naturisimo. I love to buy those because you get the chance to try out so many natural, organic, and cruelty-free products for a very reasonable price. Even considering you have to pay extra to ship to the United States, it’s still very much worth it.

Using Boucleme Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo
For some odd reason, I decided to wash my hair in the sink. It seemed like a good idea to have my head upside-down. In the shower, I was worried this stuff wouldn’t have the chance to do its magic on my scalp – rinsing right off or at least running down the lengths of my hair.
Of course, washing hair in the sink isn’t the most comfortable thing – if you’ve ever tried it, you know. 😉
There was only enough for one time in the tube; either it wasn’t filled up completely or I have a lot of hair. Both could be true.
Texture
Check out the texture. There is an even more detailed and sparkly-looking picture on their official website but mine didn’t turn out that bad, right?!
It is fairly thick and globby. Not too sturdy but definitely not runny. All good there.
Right away, you’ll notice gritty thingies in the shampoo, and that’s part of their formula. It was also the reason I went with the hair-washing in the sink – to be able to get those exfoliating genies where they had to go and massage them into the scalp.
Fragrance
The scent is lovely, actually. It is nothing shocking but nice and fresh – precisely what you’d expect from a natural shampoo that contains lavender, spearmint, ylang-ylang, geranium, frankincense, peppermint, basil, grapefruit, orange, sage, and chamomile essential oil.
The minty scent stands out the most but it’s a wonderful, fresh fragrance overall.
Very Little Suds
Now, in certain circles, natural shampoo has declared war on suds. If you’re a seasoned user of natural hair care, you’re probably hip to the way SLS and the likes have been declared evil. Maybe you’ve even tried your fair share of natural and organic shampoo brands. Or something as radical as the no-poo method.
This shampoo appears to be part of the no-to-very-little-suds clan. There is barely any foam, which may have been part of the reason I went through my entire sample tube in one go. But hey – I really wanted to give it a fair chance to work and with a lot of hair, there’s a lot of ground to cover. It’s also harder to massage it into the scalp with thick, wet hair.
Time To Rinse
All in all, it worked out pretty decently. I loved the scent. As for the gritty bits, I was expecting those to stay behind and make a huge mess out of my head. It didn’t seem like they would come out so easily. In the end, they seemed sort of gone and I did not follow up with another wash (even though I wanted to!) because it was an at-home day. And in order to gauge the full effect, giving Boucleme’s scalp exfoliating shampoo a chance to shine on its own seemed in order.
Oh, and I did not get pictures of my hair with Boucleme’s exfoliating scalp shampoo in it looked about the same as the model on the website. The model sure makes it look like a fabulous experience! I’d concur this is fairly accurate – the problem is that it’s not just about the experience during the wash but also about how the hair feels afterward.
Keep reading for the final verdict.

Boucleme Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo: Final Thoughts
The one-star review on their official website cracked me up. I didn’t see it before writing this, but clearly, someone else has had a similar experience.
They’re complaining that the gritty stuff did not rinse out well, despite having short hair. For me, it was not as bad as I anticipated. Based on the lack of suds and the lack of an actual sense of hair getting washed, I was expecting the end result to be way worse than it was.
My hair was fairly shiny and manageable once it dried. The Boucleme Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo did some cleaning, which was unexpected based on how it felt during the washing.
The smell is wonderful, which is a plus. Overall, I would not give this shampoo one star out of five. Three, maybe. Not enough to get a permanent place in my shower, though. It might be a nice addition to a regular shampoo, for the occasional home spa scalp treatment.
I recommend sampling this shampoo before committing to a full-size because it is not your typical shampoo. Also, check out this post on the best natural and organic shampoo brands for other recommendations!
